Self Cleaning Stove & Fireplace Glass 4 mm ROBAX
Self-cleaning heat-resistant glass 4 mm is a premium ceramic glass made from original ROBAX® material by SCHOTT, designed for fireplaces, wood-burning stoves and other high-temperature appliances. The glass is resistant to thermal shock and temperatures up to 800 °C, making it suitable for demanding heating applications.
The glass features a special ultra-thin metallic layer that reflects part of the heat radiation back into the combustion chamber. This helps improve combustion efficiency and reduces soot buildup on the glass surface, keeping the viewing area cleaner for longer.
Each glass panel is cut to size according to the dimensions you enter in millimetres (mm). Width and height can be swapped.

Self-Cleaning Heat-Resistant Fireplace Glass 4 mm – ROBAX®
Self-cleaning heat-resistant glass with a thickness of 4 mm is a high-quality ceramic glass designed for fireplaces, replacement fireplace glass panels, wood-burning stoves and other high-temperature appliances. It is manufactured from original ROBAX® glass-ceramic by SCHOTT, a leading German manufacturer of heat-resistant glass used by stove and fireplace manufacturers worldwide.
This version of fireplace glass includes a special ultra-thin metallic layer designed to improve the performance of the heating appliance.
The metallic layer reflects approximately 10 % of heat radiation back into the combustion chamber, helping to increase combustion temperature and improve burning efficiency. As a result, soot particles burn more effectively and accumulate less on the glass surface, which helps keep the glass cleaner compared to standard fireplace glass.
The glass offers excellent thermal stability and is resistant to temperatures up to 800 °C, making it suitable even for demanding heating applications.
Premium German Quality – ROBAX® by SCHOTT
ROBAX® ceramic glass is considered one of the highest-quality heat-resistant materials used in fireplaces and stoves.
Its main advantages include:
- temperature resistance up to 800 °C
- excellent resistance to thermal shock
- long service life and high material stability
- crystal-clear and undistorted view of the flames
- improved combustion efficiency thanks to the reflective metallic layer
This premium glass-ceramic is widely used by stove and fireplace manufacturers around the world. You can find more about the SCHOTT brand on their official website.
Typical applications
Self-cleaning heat-resistant glass is commonly used for:
- fireplaces and fireplace inserts
- wood-burning stoves
- fireplaces with heat exchangers
- pizza and bread ovens
- electric or gas ovens
- sauna stoves
- various high-temperature industrial applications
This type of glass is particularly suitable for fireplaces with a heat exchanger, where the goal is to transfer heat efficiently into the central heating system rather than directly into the room.
The metallic layer helps reflect part of the heat radiation back into the combustion chamber, improving combustion efficiency and supporting more effective heat transfer into the heating system.
At the same time, the glass maintains excellent transparency and provides a clear view of the fire.
Correct glass orientation
Self-cleaning fireplace glass has a coated side that must be installed facing the room.
This side is clearly marked during production to ensure correct installation.
Proper orientation of the glass ensures that the metallic layer functions correctly and provides the intended benefits such as improved combustion efficiency and reduced soot buildup on the glass surface.
Custom Cut-to-Size Production
Every glass panel is manufactured individually according to the dimensions you enter.
For best accuracy, we recommend entering dimensions in millimetres (mm) and carefully measuring your original glass before ordering.
Width and height are interchangeable.
Example:
For a glass size of 40 × 40 cm, enter 400 × 400 mm.
Edge Types
By default, the glass is supplied with standard cut edges.
You can choose between several edge options:
Seamed Edges – safer and slightly smoothed edges
Ground Edges – professional appearance and higher precision
Alternative Fireplace Glass Option
If you are looking for a slightly thinner and more common option, we also offer 4 mm heat-resistant fireplace glass, which is widely used for standard fireplace doors and stove windows. The 4 mm heat-resistant glass is the most commonly used thickness for fireplaces and stoves and is fully sufficient for most standard applications. It provides excellent heat resistance up to 800 °C while allowing a clear view of the flames.
For larger fireplace doors or bigger glass panels, we recommend 5 mm heat-resistant glass, which provides higher mechanical strength.
For a more modern appearance, you can choose NightFlame tinted heat-resistant glass, which has a darker look when the fireplace is off but becomes transparent once the fire is burning.
All our replacement fireplace glasses are cut to size according to your exact dimensions and manufactured from premium ROBAX ceramic glass designed for high-temperature applications.
Important Installation Recommendations
When installing heat-resistant glass, it is important to use flat self-adhesive sealing tape 10×2 mm or 10×4 mm. The glass must never come into direct contact with the metal frame or stove body.
Place the sealing tape not only on the frame or glass but also on any clips, brackets or mounting parts to ensure the glass is fully isolated from metal components.
Tighten screws and fixing clips carefully and never overtighten them. Excessive pressure on the glass may cause it to crack.
Incorrect installation is one of the most common causes of glass breakage.
When handling glass panels, always work carefully and consider wearing protective gloves.
